About the Project
One National Effort. 24 State Programs.
DRIVE Electric USA brings together Clean Cities coalitions, electric vehicle and charging equipment manufacturers, and committed partners who are dedicated to raising awareness and adoption of EVs across the United States. Launched in October 2020, the project uses participating states as great and dissimilar examples of how to build successful statewide EV efforts.
Project leaders educate consumers, utilities, regulators, and government officials while engaging auto dealers and fleet leaders, conducting EV infrastructure planning, and developing local EV chapters. Each state's work happens under the banner of its own branded EV initiative, guided by that state's stakeholders. In Indiana, that initiative is GOEVIN, led by Drive Clean Indiana.
The project is creating a replication playbook based on outputs and lessons learned, and building long-term continuation through funding and partnerships so the work keeps going far beyond the original grant period.

How the Work Gets Done
Seven Priority Areas of Focused Work
Every activity, output, and outcome in the project is built on seven priority areas that each state program works toward.
Statewide Programs
Create and strengthen branded, statewide DRIVE Electric programs in each state, with funded capacity built into every one.
Local EV Chapters
Educate consumers by developing multiple local EV chapters in every participating state.
Utility Engagement
Directly engage and educate utilities and regulators on the role they play in EV adoption.
Infrastructure Planning
Advance statewide corridor, regional, and community charging plans, with a focus on limited-income communities.
Policy Education
Educate state and local government officials about EV policy best practices.
Preferred Dealer Programs
Engage dealerships and OEMs to develop state-based preferred EV dealer programs for light, medium, and heavy-duty vehicles.
Fleet Adoption
Significantly increase fleet EV adoption across many types of fleets and sizes of vehicles.
